Solo show & print release Blind Walls Gallery  Breda

For his solo show at Blind Walls Gallery, Phylos didn’t start with a fixed plan, but wanted to create a painting that felt right in the moment. He brought a series of sketchbooks with him to flip through, searching for a balance between having something to hold onto and keeping his mind open to spontaneous creation while collaborating with the environment. To give an insight into this process, three pages from his sketchbook are displayed on the wall, showing the importance of these pages within his practice.

Making this painting is a constant shift between reflecting and creating, without knowing exactly where the work is going or when the right moment to stop has arrived. This process comes with anxiety about failing and a certain pressure, but that is also where the process becomes exciting: in that space where he can still surprise himself. Only later is he able to tell whether he likes the end result or not.

The show is on display from the 16th April until the 4th of June.
